This Day in Maple Mount History

Each day during 2012, in honor of the Centennial
of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph,
a significant moment from the past 100 years
on the corresponding day will be briefly chronicled
on the website. Some of these events will use
the exact wording that the daily annalist used at the time.

Jan. 28, 2009: In the midst of the ice storm of the century. Beginning Jan. 27, power and heat is lost to everyplace except Saint Joseph Villa, where generators are in use. Nothing is left undamaged. Fallen trees, downed power lines, shrubs and bushes flattened. Mass celebrated in the Rainbow Room through the 31st, card tables set up in the hallways of the Villa for dining.

Jan. 29, 1975: Sister Mary Antonia Wathen took Holy Communion to her sister, Sister Carolyn in the infirmary. This is the first time in the MSJ history that one sister took Holy Communion to her blood sister.
