How did your desire to be a woman religious or sister become clear or grow in your life?
Religious values and practices were common and expected in my family during my growing up years. Seeing life through a Catholic view was the accepted method of living. My parents were the best examples of a Catholic faith life that I could ever find. I attended Catholic grade school, high school and college. The beginning influence on my religious life was my parents, friends and the Catholic environment in which I grew. I did not consider entering religious life until I was 30 years old. I had sisters as teachers in all of my school life, but it was a personal encounter, while teaching school with the Sisters, when I first believed I could have a religious vocation within the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph..
Are you happy in what you are doing? How do you find it fulfilling?
If I wasn't happy in what I was doing, I would not be in community. I don't believe God would call someone to a vocation where they did not find fulfillment and happiness. I find my vocation fulfilling in that I am challenged every day to live the Christian life within this specific vocation of religious life. I find it fulfilling because religious life demands that I be an active member within God's family. Not only am I called to follow the gospel message, I must live it as a human witness to others. Everyone, whatever their vocation, is called to do the same. Yet for me as a vowed religious, I am called to be witness in a different way. I need to be for the people, an example of God's love. I am called to live, work, and play with the people of God, yet lead and support as a vowed religious.
What do you see as the most important thing an Ursuline Sister does?
The most important thing an Ursuline Sister does is to work with the people of God to fulfill the kingdom on earth. Very simply, we are called to love God above all things and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
