Kentucky State Capitol Visit

Sister Jacinta Powers, left, and Sister Catherine Barber stand in front of the state capitol building in Frankfort March 26. They witnessed the anti-human trafficking bill being signed into law by Governor Ernie Fletcher, and he gave them a commemorative certificate. Both sisters were instrumental in helping get the bill passed.

Sister Mary Lois Speaks talks to a television reporter after watching the human trafficking bill being signed into law. Sister Mary Lois is on the board of UNANIMA International, a group which has been working to eliminate human trafficking.

A group representing the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph pose on the Senate floor following the signing of SB 43. Pictured are Sister Mary Lois, Sister Catherine, Senator David Boswell who sponsored the anti-trafficking bill, Ursuline associate Phyllis Troutman, Sister Jacinta, Representative Jimmy Higdon (Marion County district where Sister Mary Lois and Phyllis reside), and Jennifer Kaminski, communications department.

Sisters Mary Lois, Jacinta, and Catherine took turns sitting in Senator David Boswell's chair. Unfortunately, they didn't get to vote on anything! The senate session was in recess until later that day.
