Ursuline leaders from across the United States and Canada are gathering at Mount Saint Joseph this week to share the message Saint Angela Merici still brings today.
From May 7-9, the Ursuline Society, eight autonomous Ursuline communities, is meeting to discuss issues in common and consider how they can work together.
Following the Ursuline Society meeting, the North American Ursuline Leadership Conference will begin the evening of May 9, and last through May 11. The annual conference is open to Ursuline leaders from three countries, and three of the 29 sisters who are expected to attend are from Canada, said Sister Barbara Jean Head, a council member of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph and a member of the conference planning committee.
Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union and Canadian Union will join with sisters from the Ursuline Society for the larger annual conference, which offers a chance for networking and prayer.

Aside from the business meeting, one of the highlights of the North American conference will be Saturday, May 10, when Sister Mary Ellen Brinovec, from Cleveland, will share a day of reflection on “Saint Angela, A Steadfast Presence,” Sister Barbara Jean said. Later that evening, Fr. Larry Hostetter, president of Brescia University, a sponsored ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, will celebrate Mass.
Also serving on the planning committee are Sister Therese Rich of Youngstown, Ohio, and Sister Mary Sullivan, a Roman Union Eastern Province sister from Chicago.
All the meetings will take place in the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center.
